Dose Per Unit Intake for Common Forms and Exposure Modes Estimates of short-term cumulative absorbed dose per unit intake Gy Bq1 ; to selected tissues are given in Table 13.95 for the case of inhalation of a moderately soluble form of 226Ra by a worker. Use of weighting factors for high-LET radiation for evaluation of deterministic effects is discussed in Section 10. Estimated 50 y equivalent doses for the same exposure are given in Table 13.96. These values are based on the ICRP's recommended radiation weighting factor of 20 for alpha particles for consideration of stochastic effects

Charges. I usually associate with it one of the soda salts-either the phosphate or the sulphate, preferably the phosphate. Nux is indicated in cardiac debility and functional irregularity. In these cases it may be associated with pulsatilla or cactus. In dyspnoea Nux acts on the respiratory centre, and breathing becomes quiet, In those cases where the patient awakes from sleep gasping for air, and feeling smothered and that his breathing has stopped, as he describes it, Nux will relieve the difficulty. In these cases a larger dose is desirable-twenty to thirty drops of the Specific Medicine Nux to four ounces of water, a teaspoonful of the dilution as needed, say from fifteen minutes at first, to every two or three hours after relief has come. In nervous diseases it is of great value, but it is in those cakes of lowered vital action. Care must be used not to administer it where there is exalted action of nervous force, for the effect of the medicine is to increase this function. In labor Nux is an excellent remedy to excite and regulate labor pains by toning up the uterine muscle. After confinement it sometimes happens that the woman is unable to empty the bladder. Give her Nux. Children, often, can not retain their urine. If this arises from weakness of the sphincter, give Nux and it will hold it shut. Its effect upon involuntary muscular tissue is always to strengthen it toward the normal, if given in sufficiently small doses, but the dose must be small. I remember once a patient excited, alert and on edge. He had violent priapism, and yet he needed Nux. Every indication proved it. He showed me a copy of the prescription he was then taking. A fourounce mixture contained three drachms of Nux Vomica. * I gave him five drops in a half-glass of water, teaspoonful every hour, and he did nicely. The doctor was on the right road, but he traveled too fast. The action of this medicine is truly wonderful, and will bear constant and repeated study. Whatever nature has stored up in it goes to supply vital action. I have no doubt its entire action is through the nervous system. This is one of my favorite medicines. And I again repeat: do not use Strychnine and expect to obtain the results which you can get from the Specific Medicine, which represents the full drug. In extracting the alkaloid, something is lost. What it is I not know. I only know the effects. Indications for Nux.-Lack of tone, irregular and subnormal function of involuntary muscular tissue, which indicate an exhausted nerve force.-A. F, Stephens, M. D., American Medical Journal. Nux Vomica and Echinacea in Prolapsus A n i .- The mother stated that the child had been suffering from prolapsus ani, and that the bowels had been protruding for two or three weeks. We exposed the little patient on a table, and a mass of bluish-black intestine three inches long was found between the nates. It is a wonder that the bowel had not sloughed off before this, 1 reduced the prolapsed bowel gradually with the fingers, holding them as a cone and lubricating them well. The bowel was then carefully returned. When in place I first soaked a sponge in a strong solution of specific echinacea, si, aqua fontana, si, inserting the sponge to hold it in position, as the medicine would have a tendency to make the bowel contract. Then I prescribed gtt. v. I$. Specific Medicine Nux, - 3 ii. Aqua Fontana, - M. Sig.-Teaspoonful every two hours.

There are at least 2 possible explanations for the ability of CLL B cells to present RhD autoantigen. One is that tumor cells may take up and process the antigen more effectively than other APC types. The other is that they may preferentially present to autoreactive T cells. To address this, we determined whether the different APC fractions from 4 patients with CLL could stimulate T cells specific for the respective dominant peptides that had been identified earlier. Results are summarized in Table 6 and show that CD5 cells can present effectively to particular peptide-specific T cells. However, compared with responses to the purified RhD protein, the bias toward peptide presentation by this fraction is less clear, and other APC populations that include dendritic cells or B2 B cells can be equally or more effective.

Coincidence, or connection? The only thing that enters this planet from the outside, besides meteorite dust, is light. Light is our only energy, our only information. Leadership toward the light is the heart of what it means to be New Light. In one medieval manuscript, Ring of Fire, the Trinity is defined as a community of light: God is Sun, Jesus is Light, and the Holy Spirit is Warmth. A surprisingly central feature of all the world's religions is the language of light in communicating the divine and symbolizing the union of the human with the divine: Muhammed's light-filled cave, Moses' burning bush, Paul's blinding light, Fox's "inner light, " Krishna's Lord of Light, Bhme's light-filled cobbler shop, Plotinus' fire experiences, Bodhisattvas with the flow of Kundalini's fire erupting from their fontanelles, and so on. 53 Light is the common thread that ties together near-death experiences as they occur in various cultures. Coincidence, or connection? For Eastern traditions more accustomed to relational "field thinking" than cause-and-effect linear thinking, it is not coincidence but connection 236 and elmiron.

This group convened in August 2000 to discuss the current knowledge of LQTS see Acknowledgment ; . As a result of this meeting, the panel proposed the following 4 guidelines13 for measuring the QT interval, based on expert opinion: 1. The QT interval should be measured manually, preferably by using one of the limb leads that best shows the end of the T wave on a 12-lead ECG. 2. The QT interval should be measured from the beginning of the QRS complex to the end of the T wave and averaged over 3 to 5 beats. U waves possibly corresponding to the late repolarization of cells in the mid myocardium should be included in the measurement only if they are large enough to seem to merge with the T wave. 3. The QT interval should be measured during peak plasma concentration of a QT-prolonging medication. 4. The QT interval should be adjusted for heart rate. Because the best way to adjust for heart rate has not been determined by prospective studies, the panel could not make a definitive recommendation in this regard. Measurement of the QT interval is particularly challenging if the patient is in atrial fibrillation because the QT interval varies from beat to beat depending on the interval between successive R waves. Unfortunately, there is no consensus on how to measure the QT interval in this circumstance. Some clinicians suggest using the same steps in the aforementioned recommendations but further advise averaging the measured QT interval over 10 beats. Others prefer to measure the QT intervals that follow the shortest and longest R-R intervals and divide each by the square root of the R-R interval preceding it. The average of these intervals would then be used as the adjusted QT interval Figure, B ; . Measurement of the QT interval is also difficult in the setting of a wide QRS complex related to either ventricular conduction defects or a paced QRS complex. This is primarily because of the lack of a standard method to mea and eloxatin

If you are a person with a skin disease, or the parent of a child with a skin disease, you have undoubtedly been faced with those rude, crude, and even well meaning people asking "those questions." These times are great opportunities to educate people about that which they know nothing about. However, at the same time, I irritated that I feel obliged to offer an explanation about my child. We all have our "pat answers" that we give in these situations. But if you are like me, you also have to hold onto your sanity somehow so as I politely giving my "pat answer" I thinking to myself what I really want to say. Do you have any snappy comebacks that you want so much to say, or actually have said? Send us your responses and we will print some in future issues. By sending in your comments you are giving ISDI permission to print your statements and name in future issues of ISDInformation.
